Can I eat sushi?

If you love sushi, this was probably one of the first questions you asked when you found out you were pregnant. The issue is not sushi itself, nor does it mean you have to stop eating fish. During pregnancy, the concern is mainly related to raw or undercooked fish.

During pregnancy, some foodborne infections can have more serious consequences for both mother and baby. Therefore, the recommendation is to avoid sushi or sashimi made with raw fish, as well as ceviche, raw shellfish, and other raw or undercooked seafood products.

You can always opt for well-cooked fish or prawns, or vegetarian alternatives, while also paying attention to hygiene and the possibility of cross-contamination with raw foods.
