Your body was made to move, even during pregnancy.
Physical exercise is good for your baby and you!
Unless advised otherwise by the healthcare professional looking after your pregnancy, staying physically active is one of the best ways to care for your health and your baby's health.
Regular physical exercise brings many benefits: it helps manage weight gain, reduces the risk of gestational diabetes and high blood pressure, improves circulation, eases back and pelvic pain, promotes better sleep, and supports your mental well-being. It also prepares your body for labour and makes recovery after birth easier.
You don't need to start training intensely. Walking, swimming, strengthening exercises, prenatal yoga or pilates are all excellent options. The most important thing is to choose an activity you enjoy, that suits your physical fitness and, above all, how you feel each day.
Think of physical exercise as a loving gesture towards yourself and your baby. Even a 20 or 30-minute walk can make a difference. If you already exercised before pregnancy, in most cases you can continue, adapting the intensity whenever needed and following the guidance of your healthcare professionals.
