Your body is already preparing your baby's first food. At this stage of pregnancy, many women start to produce colostrum, a milk rich in antibodies and nutrients that will be your newborn's first food.
Human milk
Getting to know this incredible food
Last updated 26 August 2026
Did you know that human milk is species-specific?
This means that its composition has been biologically adapted to the needs of human babies. Each species produces a milk with its own characteristics, suited to the growth and development of its offspring.
In our case, human milk does not just provide energy and nutrients: it contains antibodies, immune cells, hormones, enzymes, growth factors and oligosaccharides that are involved in the baby's protection and maturation.
Living food!
The composition of human milk is not fixed. Colostrum in the first few days is different from the milk produced later, and the milk's composition adapts over the course of your breastfeeding journey.
