Finding out you are pregnant can bring a mix of emotions. For some women, a worry also arises: "I haven't managed to stop smoking yet."

Last updated 17 August 2026
First of all, we want you to know something important: it's never too late to stop. Every time you cut down or stop smoking during pregnancy, you are giving more oxygen to your baby and improving the environment where they grow. Even if you are already several weeks pregnant, stopping smoking still brings benefits for you both.
Stopping smoking is not always easy, and asking for help is not a sign of weakness. On the contrary, it is an act of care for yourself and your baby. There are healthcare professionals ready to support you through this process and increase your chances of success.
Please don't feel ashamed to talk about this during your appointments. Our role is not to judge, but to work with you to find the best way to protect your health and your baby's.
Tobacco smoke reduces the amount of oxygen reaching your baby. The good news is that when you stop smoking, this starts to improve very quickly.
