Pregnancy brings many changes to your body, your emotions and also to the way you experience intimacy as a couple. It is perfectly natural for sexual desire to increase, decrease or fluctuate throughout pregnancy. There is no "right" way to experience this phase.

In an uncomplicated pregnancy, sexual activity is generally safe. Many families worry that sex might hurt the baby, but this is not the case. The baby is protected by the womb, the amniotic sac and the amniotic fluid, structures that act as a true natural protection.

It is also important to know that sexuality is not just about penetrative sex. Affection, hugs, kisses, massages, talking and emotional closeness continue to be very important ways of looking after your relationship, especially at times when sexual desire differs between the two of you.

Do not compare your experience with that of other pregnant women. Some women feel more desire during pregnancy and others less. Both situations are completely normal. The most important thing is that every decision is made with comfort, respect and communication between the couple.

After orgasm, it is normal to feel mild uterine contractions, similar to a temporary tightening of your tummy. These contractions are usually temporary and, in a healthy pregnancy, do not harm the baby or trigger labour.
