Small strategies to ease morning sickness
There is no single strategy that works for all women, but it is worth trying out small changes:
- Avoid going too many hours without eating;
- if your morning sickness is more intense when you wake up, try eating a biscuit or a piece of toast before getting out of bed;
- Sip small amounts of liquids throughout the day; some women find more relief with very cold water;
- Pay attention to which foods you tolerate best;
- Cold foods, citrus flavours or ginger can help, while certain smells or heavier meals can make nausea worse;
- The most important thing is to find out what works best for you.
You don't need to eat "perfectly" every day. During times when your morning sickness is more intense, the most important thing is being able to eat and stay hydrated. Once your symptoms improve, it will be easier to return to a varied and balanced diet.
