After birth, one of the most common questions is: “When can we go home?” The length of your hospital stay depends on the mother's recovery, how the baby is adapting, and also the type of birth. In Portugal, generally speaking, hospital stays tend to be shorter after a vaginal birth (48h) and slightly longer after a caesarean (72h).
There are also what are known as early discharges. When mother and baby are doing well and certain conditions are met, it may be possible to return home sooner.
This possibility must be assessed on an individual basis.
