Why am I so sleepy?

If you feel as though you have suddenly turned into a real "Sleeping Beauty", you are not alone.

Many women report intense tiredness and a need to sleep much more than usual during the first weeks of pregnancy.

Much of this sleepiness is due to the rise in progesterone

A hormone essential for pregnancy which, among many other functions, has a naturally relaxing and sedative effect.

At the same time, your body is doing extraordinary work. Even if you cannot see it yet, it is forming the placenta and all the structures needed to nourish and protect your baby over the coming months. It is a process that requires a lot of energy.

Whenever possible, try to adapt your routine and respect this need for rest.

Sleeping a little more, taking short breaks throughout the day or going to bed earlier can help you regain your energy. If you have other children or many responsibilities, do not hesitate to ask family or friends for help. Taking care of yourself is also a way of taking care of your baby.

For many women, this tiredness begins to ease towards the end of the first trimester, when the placenta fully takes over and the body adapts to the changes of pregnancy.
