You are becoming a mother, and this transformation happens in your body, your brain, your emotions, and even in the way you see the world. You are not losing your abilities. You are gaining new ones.
Your brain is also changing

Today we know, thanks to science, that during a first pregnancy, a woman's brain undergoes profound changes. Curiously, this is one of the few moments in adult life when the brain reorganises itself so significantly, similar to what happens during adolescence. Many of these changes stay with you long after your baby is born.
I always find it fascinating to think that, even as adults, our brains continue to be capable of adapting and creating new connections. It is an extraordinary demonstration of our body's ability to prepare for new challenges.
Perhaps you have noticed that you think about your baby more often, that you get emotional more easily, or that you sometimes find it hard to concentrate on other things. Many women describe this phase as a natural shift in priorities. It is as if the brain quietly begins to direct more attention to what it considers most important: protecting, understanding and caring for the baby growing inside you.
Researchers believe that these changes help strengthen the bond between mother and baby, making it easier to recognise their needs and respond to them in a sensitive way after birth.
