Your brain needs to feel safe

During labour, the brain works best when it can 'switch off' from excess stimulation and focus on what is happening inside your body.

Bright lights, constant noise, frequent interruptions, feeling watched, or a lack of privacy can increase your state of alertness.

On the other hand, a calm environment with soft lighting, few interruptions, privacy, and people you trust can help you relax and ease into the rhythm of labour more easily.

Every woman is different. Some like silence, others prefer music. Some feel better in the shower, others walking or leaning on their partner. The important thing is to find out what makes you feel safe.

That is why preparing the environment where you give birth is not just a minor detail. It is a way of helping your body do what it has prepared for throughout your pregnancy.
